The Hannibal Public School District Board of Education would like to provide an update on the superintendent hiring process.
The position was posted and resulted in 16 candidates, including eight from outside the state of Missouri. The pool included 11 male candidates, four female candidates, and one candidate who chose no response. 9 of the candidates hold a terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.), while 3 others hold specialist/six-year degrees.
After the review of candidates’ application materials, references, licensure verification, and social media, 5 candidates were selected for screening interviews that will take place January 18th. The screening process will allow the board to further evaluate the candidates’ qualifications for the position and narrow the finalists to three.
The desired qualifications identified by the district and board will continue to drive the hiring process. The top desired qualifications identified by the stakeholder survey are the ability to successfully:
Recruit, hire, support, develop, and retain effective staff members
Effectively manage district resources
Meaningfully engage with families and the community
Be a strong instructional leader
Promote a community of care and support for students
Build community and school relations
Foster community for teachers and staff
Model the district vision, mission, and core values
Advocate Publicly for school needs
Use methods of continuous improvement.
The search consultant (Missouri School Board Association) will set up and facilitate the screening interviews on the 5 candidates for January 18th. The Hannibal School Board has identified a committee of district stakeholders to serve on the formal interview team. Each person will be encouraged to provide the board with feedback on the candidates.
The Board of Education will conduct formal interviews with the finalists on Friday, January 26th. The selected superintendent will officially begin leading the Hannibal Public School District on July 1, 2024.
